Privacy policy

Effective 28 October 2026. Covers the Tunewise extension and this website.

In shortTunewise does not collect, sell or share any personal data, and it makes no network requests.

Tunewise is a Chrome extension that hides and adjusts parts of the YouTube website (www.youtube.com) according to the options you choose. This policy explains what the extension does with your data.

What Tunewise stores

  • Your Tunewise settings and profiles — which options are on and their values (for example, "Hide Shorts" on, watched videos dimmed from 90 %), the names and colors of up to seven profiles, and your Screen time schedules, daily limit and whether "5 more minutes" is allowed. They are saved with Chrome's sync storage so that they follow you to other Chrome browsers where you are signed in. Syncing is done by Chrome under Google's Privacy Policy; the developer of Tunewise cannot see or access them.
  • On this device only — which profile this browser uses and whether Tunewise is switched on here; for Screen time, how many minutes you spent on YouTube today (counted only while a daily limit is set), and a running pause or "5 more minutes". This stays in Chrome's local storage on this computer and is never synced or sent.
  • Nothing else. Tunewise does not store your browsing history, watch history, search terms, account details or any content from YouTube.

What Tunewise reads on YouTube

To apply your options, the extension runs on www.youtube.com pages and looks at the page inside your browser, for example:

  • which part of the page is shown (Home, a video, search results, a channel), and which sections and video tiles it contains;
  • the "watched" progress bar and the live, upcoming or members-only badges that YouTube shows on video tiles, to dim or hide them as you chose;
  • on channel pages, the list of the channel's tabs, so that a tab you chose to hide (Shorts, Posts, Live) can be hidden.
  • for Screen time, whether the YouTube tab is visible, to count today's minutes while a daily limit is set. The Close tab button on the Screen time block screen closes only that YouTube tab.

Apart from the Screen time minutes described above, this is used only at that moment, on your device, to show or hide parts of the page. It is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.

The Tunewise popup

When you open the popup and change the Home redirect, the popup checks the address of the tab you are on once (Chrome's "active tab" permission), to offer "Go to …" for that tab. The address is not stored or sent.

Export, import and reset

Settings → Export saves your settings and profiles as a JSON file on your computer. Import reads a file you choose, in your browser, and replaces your settings and profiles with it. These files are never uploaded; what you do with an exported file is up to you. Reset all settings returns every option to its default, removes your own profiles and clears Screen time.

What Tunewise does not do

  • No analytics, tracking, advertising or crash reporting.
  • No network requests: no servers, no remote code; fonts and icons are bundled with the extension.
  • No sale or transfer of data to anyone, and no use of data for advertising, credit or lending decisions.

Permissions

  • Storage — to save your settings and profiles, sync them through Chrome, and keep this device's Screen time count.
  • Active tab — to read the address of the current tab once, when you change the Home redirect in the popup.
  • Access to www.youtube.com — to apply your options on YouTube pages, including a small script that only marks the tabs of a channel page so they can be hidden. The extension runs on no other site.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received by Tunewise adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Removing your data

Changing or turning off an option changes your settings immediately; Reset all settings clears them, your profiles and the Screen time count. Uninstalling Tunewise removes all of its data from Chrome.

After you remove Tunewise

When you remove Tunewise, Chrome opens a short, optional Google Form that asks why. Tunewise sends nothing to it: the address has no data about you or your settings. Answers you choose to submit are processed by Google under Google's Privacy Policy; the form does not ask for your name or email.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published at the same address with a new effective date. A change that would collect or share data would be stated in the release notes and would require your consent before it applies.
